It intends to advocate the importance of the Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resource Center Website (PUP E-Library), especially in the academic context.
The seminar commenced with the warm welcoming remarks of Assoc. Prof. Mavel B. Legarde, their course instructor, expressed her gratitude to the attendees and the organizers behind the said event.
“With the dedication of E-Libraries, we are not only enhancing our capacity to store and manage educational resources but [we] are also empowering our teaching and learning experiences.” She emphasized that E-Library is beyond storing resources, but it creates a community that nurtures accessibility, collaboration, innovation, and flexibility. She also added that having the right and up-to-date resources may meaningfully refine the quality of education.
The main part of the event highlights the talks of the guest speakers, Ms. Roselyn Mariano and Mr. Joselito Domingo, RL, MLIS.
Mariano's discussion revolves around "Navigating the Evolving World of Library and Information Science“ which aims to understand LIS, demonstrate its interdisciplinary nature, and empower the audience with basic knowledge. She started with her BLIS story, which featured her personal growth as she overcame challenges after being redirected to the field, as she initially dreamt of becoming an architect. Then Mariano debunks misconceptions regarding librarianship. She also emphasizes that LIS has a wide range of opportunities, as the nature of the program goes beyond traditional knowledge and skills. As part of Mariano's ending statement, she leaves a quote from Malcolm X: “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today,” as she believes changing perspective in education is a preparation for a great future.
Meanwhile, Domingo tackled the importance of technology integration in navigating resources that will help students and teachers in their endeavors. He emphasizes PUP website content focusing on the university e-library. He advocated maximizing e of it, teaching attendees how to create an account to embrace the new way of accessing different credible resources.
The seminar ended well; some feedback was that they had fun while learning. Not only information is being provided but the performances of students from Bless Payno of BSEDEN 3-1N, who showcased her singing talent, and Ronnel Aludo of BSEDSC 3-1, and Vena Marie Gabuya of BECED 3-1, who showcased their dancing talent. Additionally, the Go! Go! Gadgets Hunt is an interactive game prepared by Princess Anne Roldan and facilitated by game masters Hershey Ulatan and Reniel Sorima.
The seminar was made possible by the project head, Yves Lawrence Santos, together with his co-head, Dan Ivan Castillo, and Sophia Ysabel Angelo, and the committees. Santos expressed his gratitude to the committee heads, members, and his co-heads, as well as to the guest speakers and his course instructor, as part of his closing remarks.
“At first, I didn't know how to start because the main organizer of this seminar came from three different programs: BSED EN, BSED SCI, and BECED. We have to unite as one to accomplish this major requirement in our course, Technology for Teaching and Learning 2. Eventually, throughout the process, it is not just about accomplishing or executing this seminar. It is more about the knowledge and information that this seminar will help our students with. From the event title itself, E-Maximize Natin: Introducing PUP E-Library and Maximizing Its Resources Towards Quality Teaching and Learning, we are leaning towards utilizing our university resources towards better quality teaching—and even learning—that our pre-service teachers and even librarians once we are already on the field,“ Santos added in an interview.
Iskolars ng bayan are encouraged, not just the future educators but all the future of the nation, to use our available resources in the PUP E-Library through a better foundation of quality academe.
